Getting a Good Deal on a Parenting Book

Parents need all the help they can get sometimes. Within the pages of a parenting book you can find that information, tip or piece of advice you were looking for. There are a slew of books out there, but once you find a good one, it tends to become your reference guide.

But no one has the money to purchase every parenting book out on the market. The cost of printing and paper keeps rising and along with it the price of books. There are several places, however, where you can find a parenting book cheap, or even free.

Finding Bargains Online

Online bookstores make it easy to find a parenting book on that specific topic you were looking for. They possess extensive catalogues of hard-to-find books. The best part of online bookstores is they often offer cut-rate prices because they have such a large volume of sales. Some Web sites offer deals where there are no shipping costs if the order is over a certain amount. Other sites have “club” deals where if you pay a set amount each year, you never have to pay shipping on any of your purchases.

You can also find a free parenting book to download online. Free e-books can be found through parenting organization Web sites. If you own a PDA or laptop, you can read the e-books anywhere.

Another Person's Trash can be Your Treasure

Yard sales and flea markets can be a treasure trove of books. Most people will sell used paperback books for under a dollar. Goodwill and Salvation Army stores also usually have books for sell. At flea markets you can often buy whole lots of books at a small price. If you find 10 or so parenting books at a booth, you might be able to bargain with the owner to sell them all to you at one price. That's the fun of flea markets and yard sales – no price is ever final.

Also, friends and relatives are great resources for finding a good parenting book or two. If they are parents, they know what worked for them and which books offered the best information. A raid on a friend's bookcase might turn up a parenting book she might be willing to loan you.

Getting a Deal at Bookstores

There are ways to find bargains at the bookstore. Several chains offer frequent buyer cards which offer a percentage off every book you buy there. Bookstores also have programs where you can sign up for their e-mail newsletters. These weekly newsletters often contain coupons you can print out at home to use for a parenting book that you want. Half-price bookstores and book exchanges are also great places to find parenting books.

Finding a good parenting book can often seem like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Don't worry, for there are many places and ways to get a good deal on your purchase.
